Calcutta Monsoon

Music & Lyrics by Garland Jeffreys

From the album Garland Jeffreys (1973)

The sidewalks of the city

are drivin’ me insane

Please take me from your city babe

and put me on your special midnight train

I’m sick and tired of feelin’ all this gloom

I hear that broadcast man he says, “Calcutta Monsoon”

I see a lady

She’s dressed in black

Can’t forget the past

Blindman’s on the corner

Someone helps him out at last

My friends across the ocean deep in doom

I hear that newsboy callin’ out, “Calcutta Monsoon”

This stone cold way of livin’

is tearing us apart

I want a life of givin’

I’m gonna open up my heart to you

So take me to the airport

and put me on your special midnite plane

This strange life I lead

Is gonna drive me half insane

It’s gonna sweep me up just like a broom

I hear that forecast man he says, “Calcutta Monsoon”

Calcutta Monsoon

I hope it don’t rain all day

Calcutta Monsoon

It’s gonna take my life away

Calcutta Monsoon

All I want is to be free

Calcutta Monsoon

I hope it don’t rain on me

I hope it don’t rain on me

I hope it don’t rain on you
